Violent Assault in German Market Square During Anti-Islam Rally Leaves Three People Injured and Two in Serious Condition

Knife-wielding man injures three people at anti-Islam rally in Mannheim, Germany.

In the German city of Mannheim, a man armed with a knife injured three people on Friday in a market square during an anti-Islam rally. The assault took place at around 11:35 Spanish time and left two people in serious condition.

The attacker, who has not been identified, stabbed anti-Islam activist Michael Johannes Stürzenberger in the leg and face and also wounded a police officer at least twice, including once in the neck. Both Stürzenberger and the officer are currently undergoing emergency surgery.

Stürzenberger, known for his activism against Islam that has led to legal convictions, is reportedly in stable condition. The attacker was shot several times by the Police and is currently in serious condition. The Police have assured that there is no longer any danger to the public but transportation around the square remains blocked.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz strongly condemned the incident, calling it “terrible” and stating that violence is unacceptable in a democracy. The perpetrator faces severe punishment. The event has prompted political reactions and heightened security measures in the area.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the motives behind this violent act and ensure public safety in Mannheim and beyond.
