Wolves and Gary O’Neil: A Race Against Time to Finalize New Contract Ahead of Transfer Window

O’Neil in talks with Wolves for a new contract

The transfer window is currently the main focus for both Wolves and head coach Gary O’Neil, as they have yet to finalize discussions on a new contract. The talks have been casual in nature, but there is a mutual desire to reach an agreement. Sporting director Matt Hobbs had previously mentioned that the club would speak with O’Neil about a new deal at the end of the season, as he still has two years remaining on his current contract.

Wolves are comfortable with their current situation and are currently focused on the transfer window. It is anticipated that any agreement would be easy to reach, but it may not happen before the start of the new campaign on 16 August against Arsenal. O’Neil, who took Wolves to a 14th place finish in the Premier League last season, was appointed just five days before their opening game after Julen Lopetegui left due to frustrations with the recruitment policy.

Despite a strong start to the season where they were competing for Europe and reached the FA Cup quarterfinals, Wolves struggled towards the end of the campaign. They lost eight of their final 11 games and only managed to secure one win, missing out on European qualification.
