Women’s Worlds Meeting Scheduled between U.S. and Finland

The 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship is hosting a semifinal match between Finland and the United States. This game marks the 25th meeting between these two teams, with the U.S. holding a strong record against Finland. In their last match up, the U.S. defeated Finland 5-3, with Kendall Coyne Schofield scoring two goals. The U.S. has a long history of success in semifinal games, holding a 17-1-1 record and have not lost a semifinal game since 2009. They have also bested Finland in all three of their previous semifinal meetings.

In this tournament, goalie Aerin Frankel has been exceptional, recording three shutouts in four games for Team USA. This ties the record for the most shutouts in a single Women’s World Championship tournament and has not been achieved since 2005. With Finland being one of their toughest opponents yet to come, it will be interesting to see if Team USA can maintain their streak of success and take home the championship title.
