The first international peace summit for Ukraine is set to occur in Burgenstock, Switzerland next month. Organized with the goal of bringing world leaders together to explore ways to achieve long-lasting peace, the summit will serve as an inspiration for a potential future peace process. Any agreements made during the summit will be in accordance with the UN Charter and international law, which aim to uphold peace and security globally.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted the significance of the summit, stating that it extends beyond Ukraine and is of interest to all peace-loving nations. He emphasized the importance of recognizing every nation’s global role, respecting international law, and promoting peaceful coexistence worldwide.

Russia has not yet received an invitation to the summit, but the Swiss government has stressed the importance of involving Russia in the peace process. The government stated that a peace process without Russia’s participation would not be feasible. However, Russia announced last week that it would not be participating in the event. Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed that talks on ending the conflict in Ukraine would be meaningless without Russia’s involvement.

The summit is scheduled to take place on 15-16 June, but at this time, Russia’s participation remains uncertain. Despite this uncertainty, it is hoped that leaders from around the world will come together and work towards a lasting resolution for this ongoing conflict.
