A Year Later: Evaluating the UK’s Science and Technology Framework for Integrated R&D Across Government

Construction of Science and Technology Framework Delayed

A year has passed since the establishment of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and the department is now evaluating the effectiveness of its plan to integrate research and development (R&D) practices across government. In March 2023, the department introduced the Science and Technology Framework as a key step towards solidifying the UK’s position as a science and technology leader.

Although not widely recognized, the framework provided a comprehensive strategy to incorporate science and innovation throughout various government sectors. Ten areas of action were identified, with each department responsible for specific tasks to contribute to this overarching goal.

The progress and impact of this initiative are currently being assessed to determine its success in promoting R&D activities within government. Researchers and policy experts are closely monitoring outcomes to evaluate its effectiveness in advancing scientific advancements and innovations across the UK.
