Accidental Shooting of French Music Sensation Kendji Girac: Investigators Probe Possible Leads

Contestant from French edition of The Voice 2014 injured by gunshot

Kendji Girac, a 27-year-old singer who rose to fame on the French version of ‘The Voice 2014’, was shot while handling a Colt 45 that he purchased at a flea market. The investigators are still exploring all possible leads and have not yet spoken to him, but his family insists that it was an accident and not a feud between nomadic gangs.

At around 5:30 am on a day in early July, police received a call about a man who had been seriously injured by a gunshot. By the time they arrived, Girac had already been taken to the Haut-Leveque hospital in Pessac, south-west of Gironde’s capital. An investigation has been launched, but the Mont-de-Marsan Prosecutor’s Office has stated that they are unable to provide any further information at this time.

Girac is originally from Perigueux and comes from a family of Catalan gypsy descent. He rose to fame unexpectedly when his uncle posted a video of him covering Gims’ hit song “Bella” on the guitar on YouTube in August 2013. He went on to win ‘The Voice’ in 2014 and has achieved great success, selling millions of records and garnering hundreds of millions of views on YouTube with hits like “Color Gitano” and “Andalouse”. Despite this, his family maintains that the shooting was an accident and not related to any feud between nomadic gangs.
