Air Force Loses Another Player as Sophomore Starter Kellan Boylan Transfers to Lipscomb University

Air Force standout sophomore Kellan Boylan transfers from Falcons to Lipscomb | Sports

On Saturday, Air Force saw its second player from the 2023-24 roster transfer to a new program as sophomore starter Kellan Boylan announced his commitment to Lipscomb University. Boylan, who started 30 games for the Falcons last season, averaged 7.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. He had a standout performance against Wyoming in which he scored 32 points on nine 3-pointers and reached double figures in eight games, three times in Mountain West play.

Boylan’s transfer to Lipscomb comes shortly after fellow sophomore Rytis Petraitis also decided to leave Air Force for California. Petraitis led the Falcons in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks in the previous season.

Boylan and Petraitis are the only two Falcons who have entered their names into the transfer portal. According to Academy rules, cadet athletes are eligible to transfer until the start of their junior years. Air Force had a challenging 2023-24 campaign that saw them finish with a record of 9-22, their worst full season since 2001. The Falcons ended the season with a poor record of 2-16 in the Mountain West conference and finished last place in the league.

Lipscomb University is located in Nashville, Tennessee and competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Bisons reached their first NCAA Tournament in 2018 and finished with a record of 20-12 during the previous season.

Boylan’s departure marks another loss for Air Force as they continue to struggle to maintain their competitive edge on the court. With only one year remaining before cadets can enter their junior years and transfer freely without penalty, it remains to be seen how many more players will leave before next season begins.
