Armenian Foreign Minister to Discuss Strengthening Ties with Hungary as Tensions Flare in Nagorno-Karabakh

Ararat Mirzoyan’s official visit to Hungary scheduled for May 6

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan is set to visit Hungary on May 6th. During his trip, he will meet with top Hungarian officials, including Foreign Minister Peter Szijártó. Following their discussions, the ministers will hold a joint press conference to discuss the outcomes.

The visit comes at a crucial time for both countries as they work to strengthen their bilateral relations and address important issues. Topics such as cooperation on international issues, trade relations, and future collaboration opportunities may be on the agenda during their talks.

According to reports from “Azatutyun”, Hungary had been blocking a project aimed at providing assistance to Armenia from the European Union Peace Fund. This issue is likely to be addressed during the meetings between Minister Mirzoyan and his Hungarian counterparts.

Armenia and Hungary announced plans to restore diplomatic relations in 2022, indicating a growing interest in expanding cooperation between the two countries. The visit by Minister Mirzoyan is seen as an opportunity to further strengthen ties and foster dialogue on shared priorities.

In recent years, there has been increasing tension between Armenia and Azerbaijan over territorial disputes in Nagorno-Karabakh. While both countries have stated that they are committed to resolving the conflict through peaceful means, recent developments have raised concerns about potential military escalation.

Despite these tensions, both Armenia and Azerbaijan have expressed interest in improving relations with other countries in the region, including Turkey. However, Turkey’s stance on the conflict remains highly controversial, with many accusing it of supporting Azerbaijan’s efforts to gain control over Nagorno-Karabakh.

The visit by Minister Mirzoyan is therefore significant as it represents an opportunity for Armenia to engage with key players in the region and work towards finding a peaceful resolution to this long-standing conflict.

Overall, the visit by Minister Mirzoyan highlights the importance of regional cooperation in addressing complex geopolitical challenges like Nagorno-Karabakh. As tensions continue to simmer below the surface in this volatile region, any efforts towards peace must be welcomed with open arms.
