Bad Bunny-Led Rimas Sports Faces MLBPA Discipline, But Ronald Acuna Jr. Considers Signing with Agency Despite Concerns

Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Atlanta Braves set to sign with Rimas Sports

Braves RF Ronald Acuna Jr. is set to sign with Rimas Sports, an agency led by artist Bad Bunny, despite the MLBPA discipline facing the company. Sources close to the situation indicate that this move is likely to happen soon. However, when questioned about signing with Rimas, Acuna Jr. stated that he had not done so yet but it was a possibility.

According to sources cited by Brittany Ghiroli of THE ATHLETIC, Rimas Sports is facing significant discipline from the MLBPA after their agent William Arroyo had his license revoked and two other employees pending certification will not get their licenses. This leaves the agency with only one certified agent, Michael Velazquez, raising concerns about its long-term viability in baseball.

The reason for Rimas’ MLBPA discipline remains unknown at this time. It’s worth noting that Acuna Jr., who had his marketing and branding work done by company Xample, currently has no listed agent at the MLBPA. Previously, Acuna was represented by Peter E. Greenberg and Associates which was acquired by Rep 1 Baseball in February 2020.

This news comes as a surprise given Rimas Sports’ reputation in the music industry and its recent successes in sports management. The agency has been known for representing high-profile artists such as Bad Bunny and J Balvin and has recently made headlines for managing several high-profile athletes in various sports including basketball and soccer. However, this disciplinary action from the MLBPA may put a damper on their reputation as a successful sports management agency in baseball.
