Canutillo ISD Leaders Excited About $386 Million in Funds for the District

Canutillo ISD leaders are thrilled about the recent passage of $386 million in funds for the district. With state-of-the-art facilities, repairs to school buildings, upgrades to HVAC systems, and improved safety and security measures for students, the district is looking forward to making positive changes. Voters in Canutillo had to approve two proposals – Proposition A for $379 million for school repairs, security upgrades, and career training, and Proposition B for $7.2 million for technology infrastructure. Both measures passed by a close margin after two previous failed votes.

Despite the positive outcomes, some residents expressed concerns about the increase in property taxes that will be used to raise the funds. One resident, Matt Stopana, mentioned that while it is important to support the education of children, it is also challenging to see taxes continuously rise. He expressed frustration about never truly owning his home due to the ongoing property tax payments.

The close vote on the propositions highlights the mixed feelings within the community about the tax increase. However, Canutillo ISD leaders are focused on utilizing the funds to improve the district and provide better opportunities for students. With the support of the community, they are optimistic about the future of education in Canutillo.

With new funding available, Canutillo ISD officials plan to invest in several areas that will benefit students and staff alike. The district plans to use some of this money to upgrade its HVAC systems so that classrooms are more comfortable during hot summer months.

“We’re excited about what we can do with this funding,” said Superintendent Maria Hernandez. “Our top priority is always our students’ education and safety.”

In addition to upgrading HVAC systems, Canutillo ISD also plans to invest in other areas such as modernizing classrooms with state-of-the-art technology.

“We want our students to have access to everything they need,” said Hernandez.

Canutillo voters approved Proposition A by a narrow margin of just 52 percent of voters supporting it.

Despite concerns from some residents about rising property taxes, many voters were happy with how their schools were being maintained under Proposition A.

“I voted yes because I believe in investing in our schools,” said one voter who did not want her name used.
