Local News: Senior summit explores the art and science of aging over two days

The “Fairbanks at 50+: The Art & Science of Aging Summit” is a two-day event happening at the Carlson Center on May 9th and 10th. This summit is open to everyone and aims to help Fairbanks residents navigate the journey of aging. It celebrates, inspires, and empowers those who are 50 years old and above.

On the first day, the summit kicks off with the annual Fairbanks North Star Borough Senior Recognition Day Luncheon. This event includes a resource fair, entertainment, and a delicious meal. Reservations are required for the luncheon, doors open at 10 a.m., and the ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Afterward, attendees can join a leisurely stroll along the Chena River walking path at 1 p.m., sponsored by Timber Creek Assisted Living Facility. This one-mile, one-hour walk offers scenic views from the Carlson Center to Pioneer Park and back.

On Friday, the summit continues from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., focusing on learning about well-being in aging. More than 40 vendors will be present to offer information, classes, and demonstrations on various topics such as arthritis management, dementia care, financial literacy, and aging at home support.
