Sheri Everts, the chancellor of Appalachian State University, has announced her resignation in a letter sent on Monday morning. She will step down on Friday, April 19th, citing significant health challenges as the reason for her decision. During her tenure at App State, Everts oversaw significant growth and development at the university. Enrollment increased to more than 20,000 students between 2014-20 and continues to rise. Everts expressed pride in the students, past and present, who have made a positive impact in communities around the world.
Before joining Appalachian State University, Everts served as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Illinois State University. Under her leadership, several major projects were completed, including the Levine Hall of Health Sciences, a new facility at Kidd Brewer Stadium, a residence hall project, building renovations, and the opening of the App State Hickory Campus.
Everts expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Chancellor and wished the university community all the best moving forward. She is the eighth chancellor in the history of Appalachian State University. UNC System President Peter Hans will announce an interim chancellor by April 19th.
