Curiosity’s Naukluft Plateau Exploration: A Sol-by-Sol Journey

Sols 1269-1270: Nearing Naukluft Plateau

On Monday, Curiosity made its way towards the Naukluft Plateau with a combination of driving and remote sensing tasks planned. The delay in posting the blog entry was jokingly blamed on leap day.

The first sol of the week saw Curiosity’s agenda focused on acquiring ChemCam and Mastcam observations of the target “Swartpunt” before continuing its drive towards the Naukluft Plateau. Post-drive imaging was scheduled to prepare for future targeting and to document the Murray formation along the route.

On the second sol, ChemCam calibration activities were carried out, while Navcam was used to monitor the atmosphere above Mount Sharp. Additionally, a large Mastcam mosaic was captured to study the stratigraphy exposed on the east side of the Naukluft Plateau.
