Empowering the Next Generation of Respiratory Therapists: COTC’s New Associate Degree Program

COTC is Providing a Program in Respiratory Therapy Technology

Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is set to launch a new associate degree program in respiratory therapy technology. The program, which is yet to receive accreditation confirmation, will start this fall at the Newark campus. The application deadline for interested students is June 15, and COTC also has branch campuses in Coshocton, Mount Vernon, and Pataskala.

Respiratory therapists play a vital role in the medical field, assisting individuals with lung diseases or disorders in their recovery and rehabilitation. They work in various settings such as emergency departments, intensive care units, and rehabilitation centers. With the number of therapists retiring higher than those entering the workforce, there is a growing demand for professionals in the field. This program aims to address this gap by preparing students for careers as respiratory therapists.

Tyler Richards, the program director, explained that the need for respiratory therapists led to the development of this program at COTC. “Respiratory therapy technology is an essential part of modern healthcare,” he said. “We are excited to provide our students with a well-rounded education that combines classroom instruction with clinical placements.”

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to sit for the registered respiratory therapist (RRT) credential offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). This credential opens up opportunities for graduates to work in the field with an annual median wage of $65,760 according to Ohio Labor Market information. Students may also apply for a limited permit one year into the program to gain practical experience while studying.

To apply for the program, students need to submit a free application for admission and a respiratory therapy technology program application on COTC’s website or contact their admissions office for assistance. COTC is excited about launching this program and helping meet the growing demand for respiratory therapists in healthcare industries across Licking County and beyond.

In summary: Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) has announced plans to introduce an associate degree program in respiratory therapy technology at its Newark campus this fall season. The two-year program will prepare students
