Erie County Community Health Center Receives $4.3 Million Grant to Continue Providing Critical Health Services

Erie County Health Department Awarded $4.3M to Improve Health Services and Programs

The Health Resources and Services Agency (HRSA) has awarded the Erie County Health Department $4,334,730 in funding for the Erie County Community Health Center. This center is the only Federally Qualified Health Center in the tri-county area of Erie, Huron, and Ottawa counties. The grant will be used to continue providing primary care, dental, and mental health services through the Health Center’s eight locations across the region.

Federally Qualified Health Centers play a critical role in public health infrastructure by aiming to improve the health of underserved communities through comprehensive, culturally competent, and high-quality primary care services. Erie County Health Commissioner Pete Schade expressed his gratitude for the grant, emphasizing the importance of collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the health and well-being of all residents in these counties.

This funding is part of a national Service Area Competition, with only 160 programs being selected for support. The grant period for the Erie County Community Health Center runs from June 2024 to May 2027. The HRSA administers the Health Center Program, which supports nonprofit organizations that provide primary care services to medically underserved populations.
