EU-U.S. Dialogues on Artificial Intelligence and Trade: Building a Stronger Partnership for Trusted Emerging Technologies

CCIA Statement on the Results of the EU-U.S. Trade & Technology Council

This week, EU and U.S. officials met in Brussels and Leuven as part of the EU-U.S. Trade and Technology Council to discuss joint actions related to AI, including regular dialogues on AI safety, 6G standards, semiconductors, and quantum technologies. During the discussions, Alexandre Roure, Head of Policy and Deputy Head of Office at CCIA Europe, expressed encouragement for the positive steps being taken to boost trade, economic security, and digital collaboration between the two regions.

Roure also welcomed the commitment to deepen collaboration on responsible AI, emphasizing the importance of aligning on this issue. He expressed anticipation for closer transatlantic engagement in the future, with the goal of strengthening the shared vision and delivering tangible results for deploying trusted emerging technologies globally. The TTC was highlighted as having a crucial ongoing role in facilitating this collaboration.

Jonathan McHale, CCIA Vice President for Digital Trade, praised the progress made in aligning standards for 6G and cooperation on AI during the meetings. He noted that the details of the AI partnership, specifically regarding standards, will be key to determining the success of the dialogue. McHale emphasized the importance of finding joint solutions to divergent approaches in order to ensure the durability of the TTC’s work.
