FASS Berlin Ice Hockey Team Wins First Regional Championship Since 1981 in Front of Capitol Crowd

Berlin’s FASS crowned regional ice hockey champions

The FASS Berlin team clinched the championship in the Ice Hockey Regional League East for the first time with a 4-1 win in Chemnitz. Celebrating their biggest triumph since 1981, coach Christopher Scholz’s team put on a stellar performance in front of around 1,200 fans, including a group from the capital. The team showed consistency and focus throughout the match, extending their lead to 3-0 by the 35th minute with goals from Felix Braun (2) and Markus Babinsky.

Coach Scholz praised his team’s performance, stating that it was their best away game of the season and one of the best games they had played in a long time. Despite falling behind 1-3 early in the game, the North Berliners stayed on track and maintained their composure. Captain Tom Fiedler, who scored to make it 4-1 in the 44th minute, emphasized the team’s determination, strong play, and timely goals as key factors in their victory.

Fiedler expressed pride in the team’s unity and family-like bond, highlighting the significance of winning a championship in the latter stages of his career. While the team celebrated their victory in the Regionalliga East, they are not considering a promotion to the Oberliga due to the financial challenges of playing in a fully professional league. Club chairman Lucien Aicher acknowledged the team’s potential in the Regionalliga East and expressed excitement for future success.
