FAU Students’ Innovative NanoSense Device Wins Top Prize in Business Pitch Competition

Up-and-Coming Entrepreneurs Shine Bright at FAU’s Business Pitch Contest

Florida Atlantic University’s 16th annual Business Pitch Competition was held with great excitement and enthusiasm, attracting participants from across the university. The competition was sponsored by the College of Business and the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship, and saw students and veterans alike pitch their entrepreneurial ideas for a chance to win seed money for their businesses.

The student track of the competition had many innovative ideas, but one stood out – NanoSense. Founded by FAU High dual-enrollees Noor Habona and Abigail Sinu, this device uses compounds in people’s breath to detect medical conditions like lung cancer, tumors, and asthma. This idea impressed the judges and showcased the level of innovation seen in this year’s competition.

The youth track had a surprise winner in seventh grader Aryana Sahai from A.D. Henderson University School with her sustainable handcrafted bracelet organization called Ladlis, which supports young girls’ education in India. The family-owned food company Pa’ Picar & Llevar from Monica Zuluaga and Nancy Moreno also won in the Spanish language track, while the Barracks Legend Foundation, a nonprofit supporting veterans with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries, won in the veteran track.

Judges for the event included founders of local companies like Celsius and 4EverYoung, as well as the Florida Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce. Other finalists also received seed money for their businesses. The competition concluded with an FAU Innovation Awards Ceremony recognizing winners from three different competitions: Business Pitch Competition, Florida Wave competition, and Tech Runway Atlantic Pitch competition.
