Brazil has emerged as the leading contender to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, according to FIFA’s evaluation report. The Brazilian bid scored higher than joint bids from Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. This marks the first time that soccer’s governing body will hold an open vote to determine the hosts of the Women’s World Cup.

The decision on who will host the tournament will be made by the FIFA Congress on May 17 in Bangkok. The United States and Mexico had initially submitted a joint bid but withdrew last week. They have now set their sights on hosting the 2031 tournament, while South Africa dropped its bid last year and is also looking towards hosting the 2031 tournament.

Brazil has previously hosted two men’s World Cup tournaments in 1950 and 2014, but this will be its first time hosting a Women’s World Cup. Germany, on the other hand, hosted the Women’s World Cup in 2011 and Australia and New Zealand co-hosted it in 2023, marking a first for women’s football history with two nations sharing the hosting rights for a major tournament.
