The U.S. military has brought Fleet Week to South Florida for the first time in a long while, with four ships from the Navy docked at PortMiami. The week of events kicked off at Frost Museum of Science on Sunday, where guests were treated to a free performance by the U.S. Navy Band, as well as the opportunity to meet sailors and Marines, and witness real K-9 training demonstrations. Dr. Cassie Freund, the director of science communication at Frost Science, expressed excitement about having the Navy in Miami for Fleet Week, highlighting the importance of naval presence in a coastal city like Miami.

With over 3,000 members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard participating in Fleet Week, South Florida is buzzing with military activity. The event is providing an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the role of science in naval operations through demonstrations and showcases.

Fleet Week also allows for greater community engagement and understanding between the military and civilians. This year’s event marks a special occasion for both parties involved.

“Having Fleet Week here in Miami is an excellent chance for us to showcase our capabilities,” said Captain John Smith, commander of one of the docked ships.
