From Factories to Freelance: The Unsung Heroes of Fort William’s Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup Pits.

15 Privateer Bikes Competing at Fort William World Cup 2024

At the Fort William World Cup pits, we had the opportunity to observe the top-notch bikes and technology used by the world’s fastest downhill mountain bikers. Riders like Greg Minnaar, Tahnee Seagrave, Nina Hoffmann, and others on factory teams have access to dedicated mechanics, team managers, chefs, and sports massage therapists to ensure their nutrition and well-being. They also have spare bikes on hand in case they need a quick replacement.

On the other hand, there are approximately 80 privateers at the event who must take on all these responsibilities while still focusing on their primary goal of racing down Aonach Mòr as quickly as possible. Despite not having access to the latest technology or resources, many of their bikes have accumulated impressive amounts of kilometers of descent compared to those of factory team riders. Let’s delve deeper into the hardworking privateers of Fort William and discover what drives them to love their bikes so much.
