Guiding the Next Generation: Navigating the Challenges of Teen Mental Health in a Digital Age with Oprah’s Exclusive Class

Oprah discusses the impact of technology on teenagers

Hello, Insiders and happy Sunday. Every week, Oprah sets an intention exclusively for Oprah Daily Insiders, focusing on topics like letting go, forgiveness, coming into your own and more. Last week, we launched a new “The Life You Want” Class about the ongoing crisis in teen mental health. It was eye-opening to learn about the struggles young people face today.

Teens today have to deal with the dangers of social media, the pressures of selfie culture and the constant distraction of smartphones. The class featured guest speakers Jonathan Haidt and Dr. Becky Kennedy who shared their insights on how Generation Alpha, the first to grow up with technology, are facing challenges due to overprotection in the real world and underprotection online.

Jonathan Haidt is an NYU professor and author of the bestseller “The Anxious Generation,” while Dr. Becky Kennedy is a parenting expert who emphasized the importance of experiencing the real world with effort and delayed gratification. This class aims to provide parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles with knowledge and actionable steps to protect and guide the young people in their lives.

If you’re interested in learning more about this topic or want to share your thoughts on the class, please leave a comment below. Have a wonderful week everyone! Stay well!
