Jacksonville Takes a Bold Step Towards Improving Mental Health with ‘Mental Health Matters Jax’

Jacksonville seeks to address its mental health concerns

Jacksonville is taking bold steps to address its high rates of mental health problems with the launch of a new initiative called “Mental Health Matters Jax.” Mayor Donna Deegan revealed that the city’s mental health hospitalization rate is significantly higher than the state average, prompting the need for action.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Deegan announced three key programs aimed at improving mental health awareness and support in the city. One of these programs includes a Mental Health First Aid education initiative, which will help individuals identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use. The National Council for Mental Wellbeing will oversee this program to ensure its success.
