Tyron Smith’s earnings depend on his playing time with $12 million at stake

Last week, news broke that Tyron Smith signed a new contract with the Jets worth $6.5 million, with an additional $13.5 million in potential bonuses. The majority of these bonuses are tied to his playing time. According to Albert Breer from SI.com, Smith can potentially earn an extra $12 million in 2024 through a two-tiered playing-time incentive structure.

The first tier includes payments of $750,000 for playing 38 percent of snaps, $1.75 million for 44 percent, $2.75 million for 50 percent, $3.75 million for 56 percent, $4.75 million for 62 percent, or $5.75 million for 68 percent of snaps. The second tier kicks in after earning the initial $5.75 million, with additional payments of $1.25 million for 74 percent of snaps, $2.5 million for 80 percent, $3.75 million for 86 percent, $5 million for 92 percent, and $6.25 million for 98 percent.

If Smith plays at least 98 percent of the offensive snaps in 2024, he could potentially earn $18.5 million in total.

Additionally, he will receive $250,000 for each postseason win and $500,000 for making the Pro Bowl.
