Maxeon Solar Files Lawsuits Against Hanwha Solutions Corp. and REC Solar Holdings for Alleged Intellectual Property Theft

Maxeon Alleges Hanwha and REC Solar of Stealing Solar Cell Technology

In a bold move, Maxeon Solar Pte. Ltd. has filed lawsuits against two major solar-panel manufacturers, accusing them of stealing innovative solar-cell designs and manufacturing processes. The company claimed that Hanwha Solutions Corp. and REC Solar Holdings AS were passing off these designs as their own inventions under different names.

Maxeon Solar Pte. Ltd., headquartered in Singapore, believes that the actions of Hanwha Solutions Corp. and REC Solar Holdings AS have violated their intellectual property rights, and is seeking legal recourse to protect their patented technologies. The company is focused on advancing solar energy technology and ensuring that their innovations are respected and not improperly used by competitors. Through these lawsuits, Maxeon is working to uphold the integrity of the solar industry and safeguard the rights of inventors and innovators.

Both lawsuits alleged that Hanwha Solutions Corp. and REC Solar Holdings AS infringed on three patents related to a high-performance solar-cell structure known as a TOPCon cell, as well as its manufacturing process. Maxeon argued that these patented designs, invented by Richard Swanson, the founder of Maxeon, significantly improved efficiency and electricity output.

In April 19th, the complaints were filed separately in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, adding fuel to an ongoing dispute between Maxeon Solar Pte
