Mental Health is Health”: Maryland’s ‘Go Green’ Campaign for Mental Health Awareness.

Maryland Embraces Green for Mental Health Awareness Month

The Mental Health Association of Maryland has joined forces with the Maryland Department of Health to launch a ‘Go Green’ campaign for mental health awareness. The initiative, which will take place throughout May, aims to raise awareness by lighting up green across the country. This year, the theme for Maryland is “Mental Health is Health.”

State officials, including Deputy Secretary for Behavioral Health Alyssa Lord from the Maryland Department of Health, emphasize the importance of providing access to care and fostering communities of understanding and support. They are working to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and highlight the resources available for those in need. Various landmarks in Maryland, along with government and nonprofit organizations, will be participating in the initiative by wearing green and lighting up buildings.

The Suicide Prevention Office has also planned a calendar of events alongside the ‘Go Green’ campaign to promote mental health awareness. Heidi Rochon, Chief Program Officer at the Mental Health Association of Maryland, stresses the importance of protecting mental health and ensuring access to care for all residents of Maryland.

Employees from various departments are encouraged to wear green and join in on events throughout May. Participants can sign up at mhamd.org/yes-to-green by clicking on ‘Yes to Green.’ By coming together and showing their commitment to mental health, communities across Maryland can support the wellbeing of all individuals.
