Two sports bar employees seek safety in cooler as tornado rips through strip center in Katy area

A tornado tore through the area near Katy, TX, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Homes and businesses were reduced to ruins as the storm ravaged the region. Amidst the devastation, two men working at Bourbon Street Sports Bar managed to survive by taking shelter inside a cooler during the storm. They described their harrowing experience of hearing the rumbling and shaking of the walls as the tornado approached.

Meanwhile, one woman in the Memorial Parkway neighborhood expressed her gratitude for being alive after her fence was knocked down and a large branch fell on her roof during the storm. Her niece rushed to help clean up the damage, recounting how her aunt felt the house moving slightly during the storm.

The National Weather Service reported that an EF-1 tornado had winds up to 90 miles per hour and caused significant damage to Firestone Auto Care and Bourbon Street Sports Bar in nearby shopping centers. The bar employees hid in a cooler as the tornado passed through, later discovering a large air conditioning unit in the parking lot.
