Mixed Fortunes at Richmond Raceway: Winners and Losers in NASCAR’s Latest Championship Battle

Sunday night’s NASCAR Cup race at Richmond: Who came out on top and who fell short

The winners from Richmond Raceway included a number of NASCAR fans, who benefited from the use of wet weather tires that allowed the race to start sooner after rain. Denny Hamlin took home his second win in the last three races and his third win of the season overall. Joey Logano turned his season around with a second-place finish after a tough start. Martin Truex Jr. finished fourth despite being in position to win before a caution sent the race into overtime. Chase Elliott also had a strong finish with a season-best fifth place, his second top 10 in three weeks.

On the other hand, the losers from Richmond Raceway included Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who finished 33rd for the third consecutive race. Harrison Burton placed 34th, his fifth finish of 30th or worse in seven races. Zane Smith came in 35th, marking the fifth time in seven races he has finished 29th or worse. These drivers may have had different reasons for their poor performance at Richmond Raceway, but they all faced challenges that made it difficult for them to compete at their best.
