New Business, New Challenges: Boosting Little Bohemia’s Development and Safety with a Business Improvement District

City Council of Omaha to Review Proposal for Little Bohemia Business Improvement District

New developments in Omaha’s Little Bohemia neighborhood are bringing a surge of new businesses and apartments, leading to increased traffic in the area. This is causing concerns for local businesses, such as Dave Hempel’s Sheet Metal Works, which has been located on 13th Street for years. With trucks arriving frequently throughout the day, Hempel emphasizes the importance of addressing safety and accessibility issues quickly.

The recently approved Business Improvement District (BID) aims to focus on development, but Hempel hopes that a new board will prioritize safety and other improvements for the neighborhood. The BID aims to enhance lighting, parking, and streetscapes in order to better control traffic and create a more welcoming environment for residents and businesses alike. Rick Hullinger, owner of Chicago Lumber, views the BID as a way to ensure that the neighborhood keeps pace with its growth while remaining safe and attractive to visitors.

The city council is set to consider the approval of the BID at their next meeting, indicating their commitment to supporting the development and revitalization of Little Bohemia. The community looks forward to the potential improvements that could bring in terms of safety, accessibility, and overall quality of life for those who call the area home.
