Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie, and Laura Dern set to star in ‘Monsanto’ as Rocket Science launches Cannes sales

In a groundbreaking drama film, Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie, and Laura Dern will come together to portray the legal battle of a former high school groundsman against the multinational corporation, Monsanto. The film is based on a true story of Dewayne “Lee” Johnson, who developed cancer after using the company’s weed killer. Brent Wisner, an inexperienced attorney played by Powell, takes on the case despite facing significant opposition from Dr. Melinda Rogers (Dern), Monte Santos’ chief toxicologist who testifies that the product is safe.

Written and directed by John Lee Hancock, the film was collaboratively written with Karl Spoerri’s Zurich Avenue and features scripts from Michael Wisner, Alexandra Duparc, Ned Benson, and Hancock himself. Producers include Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff, Philip Schulz-Deyle, Jon Levin, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick. The film will be presented to buyers at Cannes by Rocket Science and CAA Media Finance next week.

Hancock was drawn to this story for its drama-comedy elements as well as its relevance in today’s society. Mackie brings his expertise in action roles to Captain America: Brave New World while also starring as “Bob,” one of the main characters in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Dern has an impressive resume of diverse roles in Marriage Story and Little Women among many others.

International sales will be managed by Rocket Science while CAA Media Finance handles US rights. This collaboration promises to bring an intense legal drama that will keep audiences on their toes until the very end!
