New Zealand announces squad for T20 World Cup 2024

New Zealand has announced its squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, with young talent and surprise inclusions. Experienced batter Colin Munro did not make a return, but fast bowler Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra were included as two players who have yet to feature in a T20 World Cup.

Young pacer Ben Sears will also travel as a reserve for the team’s matches in the USA and West Indies if needed. Coach Gary Stead expressed his belief in the well-balanced squad, stating his confidence in their ability to put in a strong performance throughout the tournament.

Stead congratulated the players on their selection and emphasized the honor of representing their country on such a global stage. He highlighted the importance of adapting to various conditions, considering the diverse venues in the West Indies where the matches will take place.

Stead is particularly excited to see how Henry and Ravindra will perform in their T20 World Cup debuts, praising their hard work and dedication. He noted Henry’s improvement in all aspects of the game and Ravindra’s impressive trajectory in recent months, especially in the T20 format against Australia.

The New Zealand team will kick off their campaign against Afghanistan in Guyana on June 7, followed by matches against co-hosts West Indies, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea in Group C. The squad includes players like Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and others, with a focus on versatility and adaptability in varying conditions.
