In a tragic incident that occurred Friday morning, one person was shot near the Eastgate Town Center. According to Victor Miller of Chattanooga Police, a 27-year-old man was walking in the parking lot around the Eastgate Town Center area at around 10:00 am when he was shot. The suspect or suspects began shooting at him as he was walking towards a business, and he sustained life-threatening injuries.
The Chattanooga Police Department, Chattanooga Fire Department, and Hamilton County EMS were promptly called to the scene. EMS transported the victim to a local hospital with critical injuries. We spoke to several witnesses who were present at the time of the shooting.
One witness, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that they were inside the Tennessee Community Counseling Services and DUI school located across the parking lot from where the shooting took place. They mentioned hearing two gunshots and witnessing the victim enter the building after being shot. Another witness, Sheena Crow, who is an office manager at Molly Maid located nearby, also confirmed hearing gunshots fired during the incident. She found it concerning to have two shootings occur in such a short period of time and expressed her concerns about safety measures being implemented in her workplace and surrounding areas.
In light of this incident, Crow has implemented stricter security measures by keeping their doors locked at all times and ensuring that employees have keys for door security. The consecutive shootings have raised questions among residents and business managers in the area about their safety and prompted extra caution in their daily routines.
Miller said that investigations are ongoing to identify any suspects involved in this crime. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to local authorities for further investigation.
