Parisian Artisan Bakeres Break Guinness World Record with Historic 143.53-Meter Long Baguette

French Bakers Reclaim Title for World’s Longest Baguette – DW – 05/06/2024

A group of 18 bakers from Suresnes, a suburb of Paris, set a new Guinness World Record for the longest baguette by creating a 143.53-meter-long loaf. This beats the previous record held by bakers in Como, Italy, by over 10 meters and reclaims the title for France. The accomplishment was witnessed by a Guinness World Records judge who confirmed the record.

The baguette was made during an event hosted by the French Confederation of Bakers and Pastry Chefs, with Confederation President Dominique Anract praising the collective spirit and sportsmanship required to achieve this feat. The rules governing the creation of the baguette were strict; it had to be at least 5 centimeters thick and made from wheat flour, water, salt, and yeast.

Bakers began kneading the dough at 3 a.m., using 152 kilograms of ingredients to create a massive 335-pound loaf. The bread was then baked in an oven specially constructed on wheels. Mayor Guillaume Boudy expressed pride in Suresnes for hosting this historic event, calling it a celebration of French gastronomy’s national symbol.

After certification from Guinness officials, part of the baguette was distributed to onlookers while the rest went to homeless individuals. This achievement highlights the dedication and skill of French artisan bakers that have been perfecting their craft for centuries.
