During his career, McCarty played first base and outfield for three seasons with the Red Sox and was a key member of the historic 2004 World Series championship team.

The Red Sox organization expressed their condolences to his wife, Monica, and their children, Reid and Maxine. McCarty had an impressive 11-year career in Major League Baseball before retiring after playing for seven different teams in total. After his playing days, he worked as a TV analyst for the Red Sox on New England Sports Network. He had recently been at Fenway Park for a tribute to the 2004 World Series team.

Former teammate Lenny DiNardo took to social media to share his sadness over McCarty’s passing, calling him a great guy who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
