Ski Area Kasberg Faces Insolvency, But Restructuring Plan Offers a Glimmer of Hope for the Future

Insolvent Kasberg ski area receives renovation plan proposal

In recent news, the Almtal-Bergbahnen GmbH submitted a restructuring plan to the Wels regional court in regards to the insolvency proceedings of the Ski area Kasberg in Upper Austria. The managing director, Friedrich Drack, stated that this submission is a crucial step towards saving the family ski area. According to the plan, creditors can expect a 20 percent repayment rate on their demands within two years. The plan is set for voting in June after intense discussions with all creditors to secure the future of Kasberg.

The ski area has been facing financial difficulties for years. In 2016, an agreement was reached between the state and four municipalities to support its operation by covering annual losses up to one million euros for ten years. However, a tourism concept demanded by the state failed due to objections from landowners, leading to bankruptcy in July 2023. Following bankruptcy, Drack led a team that continued operations during the 2023/24 winter season.

Now, further discussions and negotiations with creditors are needed to ensure successful implementation of the restructuring plan and secure Kasberg’s future as a family ski area.
