South Dakota Chief Technology Officer Pat Snow to Retire After Almost Three Decades of Service, Bureau of Information and Telecommunications Looks for Successor

Chief Technology Officer of South Dakota to Retire in 2022

South Dakota Chief Technology Officer Pat Snow is set to retire this year after nearly three decades in state government, as announced by the state’s Chief Information Officer Jeff Clines.

Clines took to LinkedIn to share the news that the South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications is currently on the hunt for a new Chief Technology Officer to replace Snow. He emphasized that they are seeking an exceptional technology leader to take over from Snow, who has dedicated many years of service to the State of South Dakota.

Snow has been a fixture in South Dakota government since 1996, starting out as a network technologies manager before moving up the ranks to become the state director of telecommunications. He briefly served as the state’s CIO in April 2018 before Heather Perry took over the role. Perry was appointed by Gov. Kristi Noem in 2019 to serve as interim CIO.

In an interview with StateScoop last November, Snow discussed the ongoing IT modernization efforts underway in South Dakota, including plans for an enterprise identity platform and efforts to digitize services. He revealed that the state had already moved about 120 services online and aimed to continue releasing new digital services on a quarterly basis.
