Spring Meet of Champions: Woodbridge High School Swims to Victory, Northwood High School Baseball Dominates Pacific Coast League and Irvine High School Beach Volleyball Star Commits to Concordia University

Irvine’s Sports Highlights: May 2024

Spring Meet of Champions sees Woodbridge High School’s swim teams make a splash, with the girls taking first place and the boys earning third. Senior Zara Masud led the charge for the girls, winning in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Meanwhile, senior Jacob Wang secured the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle on the boys’ side. Despite their different strengths, both teams worked together to claim an overall victory, thanks to coach James Hickson.

Meanwhile, at Irvine High School, senior Cozy Zimmerman has committed to play beach volleyball for Concordia University Irvine. She started playing indoor volleyball seven years ago and helped her team win a Pacific Coast League title. Zimmerman has been playing beach volleyball for three years now, playing for Irvine High’s inaugural team under her mother Holiday, who coaches the team. With her experience and dedication, Cozy is looking forward to a successful career at Concordia University Irvine.

Northwood High School’s baseball team has had a great season in the Pacific Coast League so far. They have won 12 out of their first 16 league games and are currently in a tight battle with Beckman for the league title. The success of Northwood High School’s baseball team can be attributed to solid starting pitching from Paul Grossman and Casey Euper, timely hitting from Carter Liu, and solid defense from their players. Both Grossman, who is committed to USC, and Euper, who is committed to UC Santa Barbara, are excited about their future prospects in the CIF playoffs. As they continue to play well and compete fiercely against Beckman, Northwood High School’s baseball team is confident that they will emerge as champions in this season’s Pacific Coast League race.
