Standout High School Athletes Shine in Softball and Lacrosse; Vote for The Courier Journal’s Girls Athlete of the Week

Cast your vote for the standout high school player of the week in the Louisville area

In the Louisville area, several high school girls stood out in their softball and lacrosse games this week. Voting is now open for The Courier Journal’s girls athlete of the week, with the poll closing at 6 p.m. on Thursday and the winner to be announced on Friday. One of the nominees is Manual senior Cameron Breier, who had an impressive performance in lacrosse by scoring eight goals and providing six assists to lead Manual to a victory over Mercy. Another standout nominee is Portland Christian sophomore Ava Gish, who had seven hits and five RBIs in games against Beth Haven, Presentation, and Christian Educational Consortium in softball.

Collegiate senior Bridgette Haraden also had an impressive performance in lacrosse by scoring six goals and one assist in a game against Cooper. Mercy senior Maya Merrill was another standout nominee for her performance on the softball field, striking out 31 batters in games against Fern Creek, Atherton, and Boyle County while also earning a save against Fern Creek.

Assumption junior Lauren Satterly had a dominant week with six hits, including two home runs, six RBIs, and two stolen bases to help lead the Rockets to victories over Eastern, Male, and Jeffersonville (Indiana).
