Stay Prepared: Chaffee County Hosts Emergency Preparedness Workshop

Carly Winchell Presents Emergency Preparedness & Go-Kit Distribution Event Hosted by Chaffee County Public Health

On Tuesday, May 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at A Church in Salida, Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) will be hosting an emergency preparedness workshop. This event follows a successful workshop held at the Salida library in March and is open to all ages. However, due to limited space, attendees must RSVP in advance.

The workshop will be presented by CCPH Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator Sophia Gibb and CCPH Director Andrea Carlstrom. During the presentation, attendees will receive valuable information on evacuation checklists, insurance coverage, preparing pets for disaster, and more. They will also receive a free go-kit filled with essential supplies such as flashlights, water bottles, and first aid kits.

As a journalist covering this event, I have captured this photo of the grassfire north of Salida Airport that was successfully brought under control by firefighters (photo by Casey Johns). The workshop aims to equip Chaffee County residents with the knowledge and tools they need to be prepared for any emergency situation, such as a wildfire. It’s important for everyone to have a go-kit ready in case of an emergency. Having access to reliable information about emergency preparedness can help individuals feel more confident and secure during uncertain times.
