Streamlining Food Safety: NNPH Introduces New Temporary Food Permit and Online Application System

New Health Permit Introduced by NNPH for Temporary Food Establishments

In an effort to streamline the permitting and inspection process while ensuring food safety, the Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) is introducing a new temporary food establishment permit and online application system. This new system will provide convenience for vendors by allowing them to use one permit for multiple special events in a calendar year, rather than applying for a new permit each time.

Starting July 1, vendors who operate at more than five special events in a calendar year will have the option to apply for the new permit type. The application process requires that vendors have a servicing area, such as a commercial kitchen with a valid county health permit. The application and payment for temporary food establishment permits can now be done online, offering vendors greater accessibility and efficiency.

To help vendors understand the new system, NNPH staff will be hosting a public forum on May 7 at NNPH Conference Rooms A/B 1001 E. 9th Street, Building B. The forum will provide information on common violations and assist vendors in understanding the new system. A Zoom stream will also be available for remote participation.

Kristen deBraga, Senior Environmental Health Specialist at NNPH, expressed satisfaction with the new permit and believes it will improve the overall process for vendors. “We’re excited about this new system,” she said. “It will make it easier for vendors to stay in compliance while serving safe food at special events.”
