Surviving the Cold and Crow Attack: The Incredible Rescue of a Missing Corn Snake in England”.

Lost snake evades crow attack to reunite with owner after one year

A corn snake named Agnus miraculously survived being outside in the cold for a long time and being attacked by crows in Spennymoor, County Durham, England. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) received a report of a corn snake slithering on a garage roof and came to its rescue. Expert John Lawson at the RSPCA explained that Agnus had been caught by a crow but was released when the crow realized it couldn’t eat the snake. The snake’s owner came forward to confirm that Agnus was his missing pet, who had been gone for about a year. Agnus was treated for a respiratory infection caused by the cold and was eventually reunited with his owner.

As snakes cannot generate their own body heat and rely on their environment to maintain their temperature, Lawson was surprised that Agnus survived being in the cold for so long and being attacked by crows. The veterinarian who treated Agnus believed that the snake had entered a brumation state, similar to hibernation, to survive the ordeal.

Corn snakes are not venomous and are not considered a threat to humans. They are typically orange or yellow with large red spots and black edges along their back. Corn snakes are native to North America and mainly eat small rodents and birds. The RSPCA advises snake owners to keep their cages secure to prevent escapes.
