Taylor Pendrith: From Second Place to Tour Champion – The Unstoppable Rise of the Swing 5 and Aon Next 10 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Aon Swing 5 and Next 10 Players Ready for Wells Fargo Championship

Taylor Pendrith had a remarkable day at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson as he secured his first PGA Tour victory. As he celebrated his win, Ben Kohles and Alex Noren also had reasons to be happy as they finished second and third, respectively, at TPC Craig Ranch. Pendrith’s triumph guarantees him spots in the final three signature events of the season, including next week’s Wells Fargo Championship, as well as next month’s Memorial Tournament and Travelers Championship.

In the Swing 5 category, which determines the top five players who accumulated the most points from the Corales Puntacana Championship, Zurich Classic, and Nelson, Pendrith was among the top players. The other top players in this category were Ben Kohles and Alex Noren. Tournament winners automatically qualify through the Swing 5 or Next 10 categories, which take precedence over the tournament winners’ category.

In addition to those who qualified via Swing 5, there were some changes in the Aon Next 10 category that exempts current top 10 players in FedExCup points who did not finish inside the top 50 last season. Shane Lowry broke into this list after winning Zurich with Rory McIlroy. Other players included Ludvig Åberg, Matthieu Pavon, Stephan Jaeger, Will Zalatoris, Akshay Bhatia, Jake Knapp, Justin Thomas Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Austin Eckroat.
