The Wild and Wicked World of Boy Kills World: A Dystopian Fascist Adventure

Welcome to the world of Boy Kills World, where fascism reigns supreme and televised bloodsport is the ultimate form of entertainment. The movie takes us on a wild journey through a dystopian society where people are pitted against each other for their own amusement.

We are introduced to our protagonist, Boy, who is played by Bill Skarsgård. Boy is a deaf-mute who has witnessed his family being brutally murdered in cold blood. He then runs away into the jungle and spends his adolescence being trained in martial arts by a helpful shaman (Yayan Ruhian from The Raid).

As we follow Boy’s journey, we see that he is determined to seek revenge against those who killed his family. The movie’s color scheme of red and yellow may remind you of Kill Bill, but there are plenty of other references to draw from as well, including Oldboy, Scott Pilgrim, and Deadpool.

The tone of the movie is obnoxiously knowing yet inventively weird. It’s not smug or shiny; it’s all about daft excess and action choreography that will leave you breathless. First-time director Moritz Mohr has thrown everything at this movie – body count in the high dozens, relentless passages of slickly cartoonish action choreography – all in an effort to make sure nothing goes unnoticed.

Mohr isn’t content with just sitting back and watching the stunt performers do their thing. He wants to be part of the action too, swooping and gliding all over the place like he can’t resist joining in on the fun. While some may find this hyperactive form frazzling, it adds to the film’s video game sensibility – it just won’t stop until it reaches its end goal.
