Thrilling Victory for Brecel and Evans at World Mixed Doubles Championship

Luca Brecel and Reanne Evans defeat Mark Selby and Rebecca Kenna to claim World Mixed Doubles title

The World Mixed Doubles Championship concluded with a thrilling final match between Luca Brecel and Reanne Evans, who emerged victorious over Mark Selby and Rebecca Kenna. This marked a significant milestone for both players – Brecel, the reigning world champion, and Evans, a 12-time women’s world champion from England.

Despite facing challenges such as having his car towed just before the final, Brecel expressed his delight at the win and the momentum it provides him as he prepares to defend his world title at the Crucible in Sheffield. The tournament reintroduced to the World Snooker Tour in 2022 after being played once before in 1991 features pairings of top male and female players competing in a round-robin group stage.

In the group stage, Selby and Kenna secured a 3-1 victory over Brecel and Evans in their final game, finishing at the top of the table with seven frames won. However, despite this loss, Brecel and Evans advanced to the final due to their superior head-to-head record. The defending champions Neil Robertson and Mink Nutcharut finished at the bottom of the standings following two draws and a defeat.

Overall, the World Mixed Doubles Championship showcased the skill and talent of some of the world’s best snooker players while providing an exciting competition for fans to enjoy. With Brecel and Evans emerging as champions, they have set the stage for future competitions and further development of this sport.
