Tigist Assefa’s Quest for Marathon Dominance: Can She Repeat Her World Record Feats?

Tigist Assefa aims to break women’s marathon world record at London Marathon

Tigist Assefa, an Ethiopian marathon runner, is determined to break her own women’s marathon world record and run under two hours and 10 minutes. Despite setting a new world record of 2:11:53 in Berlin last year, she remains focused on winning the London marathon this Sunday.

Assefa expressed confidence in her abilities and her desire to achieve even greater success in the future. She emphasized that while she may not push herself to break the world record this time around, she remains a strong contender given her impressive training regimen and preparation for the upcoming Olympic marathon in Paris.

When asked about her training routine, Assefa shared that she runs between 110 and 124 miles per week and includes gym sessions four times a week as part of her preparation. This rigorous training has made her a formidable contender in the race against other top female marathon runners like Ruth Chepngetich, Peres Jepchirchir, and Yalemzerf Yehualaw.

Assefa will be wearing Adidas’s Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 super shoe for the race, the same shoe she wore when she broke the world record in Berlin. The innovative technology of the shoe, which is 40% lighter than previous models, has sparked debate in the running community. However, Assefa believes that the shoes give her an advantage due to their lightweight design.

With her sights set on victory in the London marathon and her eyes on breaking her own world record in the future, Tigist Assefa is a force to be reckoned with in the world of women’s marathon running.
