Tower Health Wins Lawsuit Against Health Information Sharing with Meta Platforms

Tower Health Successfully Defeats Lawsuit Involving Sharing Health Information With Meta

In Pennsylvania, Tower Health emerged victorious in a lawsuit against allegations that it shared patients’ personal health information with Meta Platforms Inc. in violation of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and common law. The plaintiffs, Patrick Santoro and Jessica Landis, had claimed that the information disclosed to Meta was sensitive health information, but Judge John F. Murphy of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ruled that they were unable to prove it.

According to Judge Murphy, the failure of the plaintiffs to demonstrate that the shared information was sensitive health data was crucial to their claims of negligence, intrusion upon seclusion, and violations of the ECPA. Consequently, he dismissed the lawsuit without giving Santoro and Landis an opportunity to amend their complaint.

Despite these claims, Santoro and Landis alleged that Tower Health had improperly shared their health information with Meta Platforms Inc., which led them to pursue legal action. However, their inability to prove that the disclosed information was sensitive health data ultimately resulted in the case being dismissed by Judge Murphy. Despite this setback, Tower Health successfully defended itself against allegations brought by these plaintiffs.
