Tyler Broussard, an eighth grader at Eastside John P. Powell Magnet School, recently achieved great success at the Greater East Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair (GREASF) on February 23, 2024. She secured third place in the competition and went on to compete in the Alabama Science and Engineering Fair (ASEF) in the junior division for middle school students in grades 6th-8th. Her project titled “Lights On” was in the Robotics and Intelligent Machines category.
Tyler’s exceptional performance at the regional fair earned her a spot among the top 10% of participants, leading her to advance to the Broadcom Masters 2024 competition. This national science competition, organized by the Society for Science, will see approximately 300 students vying for entrance. Tyler was honored with the Broadcom Award for Coding with Commitment at ASEF competition which came with a $250 gift card and a Raspberry Pi kit.
Tyler is receiving guidance and coaching from her Physical Science teacher, Dr. Vickie Benson, who is also the K-8 STEAM Specialist at East John P. Powell Magnet School. Their collaboration and Tyler’s dedication to her project have culminated in this achievement, setting a successful path for her future endeavors in the field of science and engineering.
