Vanderbilt University Establishes New College of Connected Computing for Cutting-Edge AI and Data Science

Vanderbilt University to Launch a New College Dedicated to Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science

Vanderbilt University is set to establish a new college focused on computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and related fields. Named the College of Connected Computing, the interdisciplinary college aims to collaborate with all of Vanderbilt’s schools and colleges to advance breakthrough discoveries and enhance computing education through a “computing for all” approach.

Dr. C. Cybele Raver, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, along with School of Engineering Dean Dr. Krishnendu “Krish” Roy will oversee the new college. The search for a dean will begin in late August.

Chancellor Dr. Daniel Diermeier highlighted the importance of advanced computing, AI, and data science in shaping society. He believes that for Vanderbilt to continue fulfilling its mission, preparing students for their careers, and advancing research, the university must play a bigger role in studying, understanding, and applying these rapidly evolving disciplines.

The new college will allow Vanderbilt to expand on its existing programs and provide students with exceptional educational opportunities. With growing global interest in AI aligning well with Vanderbilt’s expertise in the field, this college represents a significant step forward for both the School of Engineering and the entire university as computing becomes increasingly intertwined with all disciplines.
