Walk-Off Victories: WPIAL Baseball and Softball Teams Bounce Back from Rainouts with Dramatic Finishes

Fox Chapel Seeks Section Sweep in WPIAL Sports on March 27, 2024 After Rainout

WPIAL baseball and softball teams were back in action on Wednesday after being rained out on Tuesday. In a Section 1-5A matchup, Fox Chapel emerged victorious against Penn-Trafford with Mitchell Epstein’s walk-off sac fly securing the win for the Foxes. Meanwhile, Franklin Regional sought to secure back-to-back wins by visiting Penn Hills in another Section 1-5A game.

In Section 2-2A, Laurel had a late-inning victory over South Side with Luca Santini hitting a walk-off single to secure the win for the Spartans. The second game of the Laurel vs. South Side series was scheduled for Wednesday, with Laurel visiting South Side. North Hills and Penn Hills were set to face off in a Section 1-5A softball game on Wednesday, with a rematch scheduled in two weeks at North Hills. Both teams had strong starts to their seasons, with North Hills holding a record of 3-1 and Penn Hills winning their first two nonsection games convincingly.
