Asher Michel Takes Home Bronze in FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships

Third Best Freestyle Skier in the World Hails from Grand County

Asher Michel, a talented freestyle skier from the Winter Park Competition Center, recently claimed bronze at the FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships held in Valmalenco, Italy. The 18-year-old skier traveled to Chiesa Resort in Italy in early April to compete against some of the best athletes from around the world.

On April 5, Michel earned third place in moguls, sharing the podium with Mateo Jeannesson of Great Britain and Daeyoon Jung of South Korea. The following day, on April 6, Michel competed in dual moguls and finished in fourth place. This event marked Michel’s second time participating in the junior world championships. In 2023, he won gold in team dual moguls race with teammate Alli Macuga and also clinched third place in moguls.

Throughout the past season, Michel achieved several milestones, including winning gold in dual moguls at Vermont’s Stratton Mountain Resort in the NorAm Cup on March 2. His impressive performance at the Junior World Championships has earned him recognition as one of the top freestyle skiers for 2024.

Another Winter Park Competition Center skier, Olivia Maurais also competed at the championships. She earned 14th place in moguls and rose to seventh place in dual moguls during competition. During both events, Michel was judged on turns, airtime and speed.

Michel’s success at this year’s competition has solidified his position as a force to be reckoned with in freestyle skiing competitions worldwide. He celebrated his win by standing on podium after earning bronze medal for his performance on April 5th showing that he is a true contender for future victories within this sport field.
